The British Penny was introduced during the reign of King George 111 as he felt that the value of the copper in 1797 and 1798 was equal to the actual amount of the coins produced. The British Penny also known as the British Cartwheel Penny was a very large and quite heavy for a coin of such little value and it was for this reason that the coin was ultimately replaced with a smaller version with equal value.
The British Penny both the one once and two once coins were only minted for two years due to their unpopular acceptance of by the British commons. The British Penny does carry some value in today's market if you can find one in good condition. The coins were so large and cumbersome they were easily damaged.
British Penny would be a nice addition to any coin collection as they do fall into the area of being a rare coin since they were only minted for two years.
